WHAT?

Tell us what the concept is about. What are you designing? What are the key benefits?

Beicoin is a mission platform provided by the Chinese government which enables people to earn Beicoin to pay for National Insurance and other services and products by completing missions that involve physical activities, further to encourage them to transform their sedentary lifestyles into healthy lifestyle. National Insurance as a product provided by government to attract early adopters and reward coins can be used in a wide range of marketplaces.

WHY?

Tell us some of the key findings of your background research and what is the problem you are trying to address.

According to a survey by China Health and Nutrition Survey, Chinese adults (18–60 years) spend about 50–60% of their working day sitting down, and lack of physical activity comprises one of the four major risk factors for chronic disease, which currently account for more than 80% of the overall disease burden in China.

On the other hand, health-related data is a precious asset for both individuals and stakeholders among government, institutions and the health&wellness industry. However, due to the lack of means to interconnect, the rise of user-generated health data form mobile or wearables has not been utilized.

How might we unlock the full potential health-related data by aggregating, sharing and monetizing it? How might we change the sedentary lifestyle for desk-based people in a fun way by leveraging data currency as incentives?

WHO?

Tell us something about your users and key stakeholders involved.

Beicoin aims to create an ecosystem which connects all key players in health and wellness area including users, government, employers, business sectors and etc.

Desk-based people could pursue healthy lifestyle by monetizing their activities and using token to purchase healthy lifestyle products and services in the marketplace.

Government supply Beicoin token and make National Insurance available to be paid by Beicoin token, in order to improve public’s health and reduce medical expenditure by spending on disease prevention.

Employers could find that beicoin is a fun and rewarding tool to encourage healthy lifestyle by purchasing tokens and launching challenges for employees.

Health and wellness industry could market target client and provide healthy lifestyle products and services in the marketplace. Moreover, they could abtain insight from user’s data by purchasing tokens and launch challenges for users in exchange for data

WHEN?

Give us an idea of the future scenario where your project will be working.

In 2023 we anticipate user-generated data is the core of the healthcare ecosystem due to blockchain technoloty, so then people could monetize their activities and get full control of their own health related data.

WHERE?

Tell us if you have thought of a specific location where to prototype.

We tested the minimal viable product by using existing social media platforms Wechat groups as mission launch platforms.Through this prototype, we found this Service could lead to sedentary behavior changing in small group and at certain time.

Also, we sketched out different user jouneys and a rough paper prototype to test with stakeholders including government officer and desk-based user. Feedback on usability and the overall service concept were gained.

HOW?

Give us an idea of your strategy, your process, your prototyping plan and the next steps.

1.MVP(now)The minimal viable product can be implemented today, with existing social media platforms like Wechat groups could be used as mission launch platforms. The service might lead to sedentary behavior changing in small group and at certain time.

2.Integrated system(within 1-3 years)The proposed service concept provides a digital management system, Beicoin. It will enable desk-based people to earn Beicoin by completing missions which are launched by the Community Healthcare Center and to pay for national insurance using Beicoin. Blockchain technology is used for security and interoperability of health data and Blockchain-based Smart Contracts enable contracts to be fully executed when conditions are met.

3.Full ecosystem(within 3-5 years)This scale would enable users to spend Beicoin to receive further healthy lifestyle goods and services by opening the Marketplace to businesses such as health insurance, health industry, sports industry etc.
