Our service Ongoinfo aims to improve the experience of university students and staff and enhance the communities in universities. It creates a real community by connecting online and offline happenings together, and provides detailed information in the campus. By giving people tools to deal with daily worries, we help them to build more familiarity with their context, to support each other in the same community, and to have more positive emotional connection with the campus. WHY?

Tell us some of the key findings of your background research and what is the problem you are trying to address.

It is common that sometimes students feel frustrated about something in universities, especially when their projects or exams were not successful. From our research, we find there are multiple reasons lead to academic success or failure, besides the student’s own academic practice.

1. Tiny worries largely affect timetable, and they both largely affect students’ academic performance. Lots of students have to schedule their timetable based on the time of tutorials, library, workshop, student service departments, and all the equipment in campus they have to use. If one tiny segment went wrong at a tricky time, it would cause a change of all the next steps, and have a huge impact on the exams or submission of students’ assessments.

2. Students need more support in independent study. They believe that people in the same college have the ability to help them with their academic improvement. They are willing to learn from others. Also, they get to know latest detailed in-house information (such as how long they have to wait for a wood workshop place now) mainly from other students.

WHO?

Tell us something about your users and key stakeholders involved.

At first, our users are students and staff in universities. Then, it could be applied also in companies, and the users would be office workers and supportive staff.

WHEN?

Give us an idea of the future scenario where your project will be working.

In 2019 or 2020, with our service Ongoinfo, university students can know real-time happenings in campus. So they can arrange their time better, and have more agency to improve themselves. Also, their network will expend to all people in their university. They will know all the names and location of people in the same campus (if people want to show the information). It will be much more easier to find someone, something, or someplace, because of in-house GPS location. Besides, they will know the people who are doing similar projects but in other courses, so that they can start to contact each other.

WHERE?

Tell us if you have thought of a specific location where to prototype.

Our research mainly focus on London. It may also apply to other cities.

HOW?

Give us an idea of your strategy, your process, your prototyping plan and the next steps.

Based on the current situation in the universities in London and the emerging technology we will use, our service is realizable in one year. It can be implement firstly in universities, then expand to companies.

If Ongoinfo is realized, we are able to get the valuable realtime data of people’s accurate track in buildings and the interdisciplinary communication within the organizations.
